Designer Kitchen & Bathroom Award: Arik Levy recognised
Premium highlights in the modern bathroom are created at KALDEWEI in collaboration with star designers such as Arik Levy. Already the recipient of multiple awards for his KALDEWEI Meisterstück Emerso freestanding bathtub and washbasin, this exceptional designer is also successful in other areas of design – from furniture to lamps to packaging. He has moreover made a name for himself worldwide as an artist, stage designer, video-artist and photographer. Now Arik Levy has been presented with the prestigious international Designer Kitchen & Bathroom Award 2019 for lifetime achievement, taking his place alongside previous winners Philippe Starck, Matteo Thun, Marc Newson, Zaha Hadid, Claudio Silve- strin and Karim Rashid.
Arik Levy travelled from Paris to attend the Designer Kitchen & Bathroom Awards 2019. Now in its 17th year, the event was staged at the opulent Grand Connaught Hotel in London. Multitalented and internationally renowned, Arik Levy was born in Tel Aviv and has been living and working in the French capital for many years. In partnering with KALDEWEI, the versatile designer took on the challenge of using the iconic material, KALDEWEI steel enamel, to create a work of art that would also be perfect in technical and functional terms. The result is a unique, freestanding bathtub with a rim that curves in on itself, reminiscent of the movement of water, and a matching washbasin whose shape is the inverse of the bathtub.
The Designer Kitchen & Bathroom Awards recognise not only the creative and innovative power of designers and architects but also, explicitly, their use of innovative materials. “Compared with other materials with which I work, steel enamel is longer lasting, the surface is non-porous and it is the epitome of sustainability. “Those who make products from this material strive to create something perfect, something that lasts – and that applies equally to KALDEWEI and to me.”

The ensemble of KALDEWEI Meisterstück Emerso bathtub and Meisterstück Emerso washbasin, designed by Arik Levy, possesses strikingly persuasive style elements. The rim of the freestanding, fully enamelled bathtub rises slightly, so that, like looking at a silk ribbon rolled in on itself, one’s gaze seems to roam infinitely. The coordinated washbasin is an inverse counterpart whose rim swoops inwards into the body of the piece. Coordinated with the design of the KALDEWEI Meisterstück Emerso bathtub, the washbasin is its inverse counterpart with a rim that swoops inwards into the body of the piece. Because it is fully enamelled, the Meisterstück Emerso washbasin can be installed with the descending side either facing into or away from the room.
