Design Competition: KALDEWEI fosters young talent

Design Competition: KALDEWEI fosters young talent

Ahlen, April 2016. – For what was already the fifth time, the premium manufacturer has teamed up with the trade journal, Architektur & Wohnen (A&W) to find Germany’s best young designers. The top three winners of this year’s competition will receive their awards on 13 April 2016 at the prestigious Salone del Mobile furniture fair in Milan, where they will also be given the unique opportunity to show their work to an international trade audience.

Choosing from over 400 entrants and around 700 submitted products, the jury – made up of representatives from the KALDEWEI design team and the A&W editorial team – selected 18 prize-winners and the top three winners whose designs they found particularly persuasive: Carina Deuschl designed the collapsible, and thus portable, “Xtend” bathtub which consists of a grid-shaped carbon structure and a soft, padded textile insert. The bathtub is portable, can be set up anywhere, and affords very special bathing pleasure – even outdoors. Maik Juch was recognised by the jury for his “thinX” dining and conference table. This item of furniture features four slender, solid wood legs, fitted in the form of two crosses. They support a rectangular wooden table top whose inward-sloping edges give it a most striking appearance. Lisa Merk and Thalea Schmalenberg were also able to celebrate an award: these two young women designed the ultra narrow “Remind Me” sideboard which is the ideal, space-saving storage surface for many different items.

The winners of this year’s Design Competition will receive an invitation to the Salone del Mobile, inclusive of flights and accommodation. During a formal award ceremony at the KALDEWEI stand, the winning designers and their pieces will be presented to the trade fair visitors. They can also look forward to a voucher for a trendy “Twercs” toolbox.
